2 hours,
Stuck in traffic,
Light showers,
Windshield wipers held on by elastic.
Window stuck,
2 thirds up,
Soaked now,
Just my luck.
I flick my ash on the dash,
It hisses back,
And escapes through a small crack.
I fiddle with the radio,
No signal though?,
Eyes battle through the smoke,
Oh great, the aerial's broke.
Light showers?
This is a monsoon,
Ah, English summer,
Middle of June.
I stutter into the car park,
Exhaust smoking,
People coughing as I drive past.
The door creaks open,
Hinges strain to hold on,
The whole body tremors,
As the door slams shut,
Fighting the weather.
Then I see it,
FLAT!!!
Need to change that,
Before I go back.
Clothes stick to skin,
Like a label on a tin,
As I sprint to the doorway,
And buzz to get in.
The warmth hits me,
Sends me dizzy,
Trying to focus,
Everyone looks busy.
Here comes the boss,
I smile, and wave,
"Well you're bloody keen!" He remarks,
"It's your day off today!"
