My Siblings are Killers (part 2)
Part 1
I put my phone in my clothing drawer and cleared the history to make sure neither of them looked at what I was doing. I sat at the top of the stairs, hoping to eavesdrop on them.
The noise sounded like a heavy piece of metal, which I assumed was the pocketwatch, drop onto the floor and then break into pieces. I cringed.
Then the door suddenly slammed open and I saw Sean hurry inside. I leaned closer to hear more.
I noticed Sean walk into the kitchen. Then he spoke up. "What did you do?"
I couldn't hear Olie's response, but it must have been something bad because I heard a loud slam. I scooted down the stairs a bit, and found Sean pinning Olie right against the wall by the throat. I covered my mouth, but kept listening.
"You're not going to kill me." That was Olie in an annoyingly sing-songy voice, nonetheless wheezy. "You don't know that!" Sean hissed.
Olie gasped a bit, and then I saw him punch Sean in the stomach. Sean released him, and Olie scurried away from him. "You would never kill me!" he giggled.
Sean turned away and clenched his fists. "I hate you. God, I can't stand you." Olie kicked his feet on the ground. "I know, sunshine. Just keep doing your job, and neither of us will get caught!†Sean looked away. For a moment, I could have sworn he might’ve seen me if I hadn’t flattened myself against the wall. “I can’t keep doing this for you, Olie.†Olie shifted and glared at him. “I’ll keep making you do it again. You can keep hiding everything we’re doing. You have power and I don’t.†Sean grumbled something inaudible, and coughed into his arm. “You’re insane.†He said. Momentarily, I saw Olie’s expression twist before he smiled serenely at Sean. “You don’t need to tell me.â€
A lump formed in my throat, and I scooted as quietly as possible back up the stairs. I rolled into bed and buried myself in blankets. I really didn't know what else to do except despondently cry. So I ignored everything and cried, and eventually cried myself to sleep.
The next morning, I woke early. I peered out my window, trying to believe that everything that had happened last night was some horrible, horrible dream.
I took my phone out of my drawer, and opened it up. I wanted to talk to someone before I talked to my brothers. So I decided to talk to my distant cousin Abel.
Me: Hey you!
Abel: I'm tired.
Me: I need your help. Think I can stay overnight at your place?
Abel: You're an hour away! And you know how my mom feels about getting permission, right?
Abel: I also suspect that my uncle and aunt might be over and you know what hippie weirdos they are
Abel: I think my uncle smokes weed
Me: It's an emergency! Sean and Olie are both busy tonight.
I didn't like to lie but in this situation, I needed to real bad.
Abel: Ughhhh
Abel: I hate your brothers let me just ask my mom
Me: OK.
I waited for him to reply. It would be good to get out of the house, away from Sean. I trusted Abel, I knew he would listen and hopefully believe me.
Abel: She said fine. When are you coming?
I glanced at the clock. 9:00 am.
Me: Eleven.
Abel: Lol ok. See you then
I shut off my phone and made my way downstairs. I looked around and saw Sean on the couch. Olie was nowhere to be seen. I threw off my sweatshirt and sat down next to him. "Hey, kiddo. How was the party?" he asked.
I bit my lip and shifted against him. "Fun," I replied. "Good." He sounded a little detatched as I spoke to him. I kicked my legs a bit. "I got home at 1:30. Olie was home pretty early," I commented.
Sean tensed up a bit against me. He was a great detective who wasn't really good at hiding emotions. "He was let off early."
"Oh," I coughed. "I'm gonna go over to the library to study all day."
"Alright," Sean replied, standing up. "Just don't get hurt."
I nodded as Sean started up the staircase. That's when I trotted into the kitchen and crouched onto my knees, and I discovered the shards of the pocketwatch.
They hadn't even bothered to clean it up. I rolled my eyes, and picked up a couple of the pocketwatch shard before heading to my car.
The town looked quite different from the emptiness of last night. Everything was bustling with life and the city continued on without a care.
I decided to actually stop at the library. While I was there, I picked up a few Agatha Christie books that Sean liked to read, and then a few books about foul play and murder. I sat in my car after checking out the books. Then, I called Sean.
"Sean?"
"Yeah, I'm here. What's up?"
"My friend wants me to sleep over. That ok?"
"Sure, sure."
“Thanks so much. I owe it to you.â€
“Oh, no problem.â€
“If Olie comes home early again, tell him I said good night, will you?â€
“Can do. Have fun, kiddo.â€
I hung up, and let out a long sigh. I’m an idiot. I opened the glove compartment, filled to the brim with papers, and stuffed my phone inside. I wrapped my hands around the driver’s wheel, and headed to the highway.s The drive to Abel's place was rather painless. I didn't see his uncle or aunt's cars outside, just his and his mother's. Abel's dad had left him too - I guess ****ty dads just run inside of our family.
I'm outside right now. I'm going to tell Abel everything. I don't know what's going to happen after this - I'm just looking for everything to blow over, I guess.
I want the brothers who I knew back.
