ELI5: What's the science behind waking up in the middle of the night after only a few hours of sleep feeling rested, only to get a full eight and wake up tired?
Example: Falling asleep at 9pm, waking up at 1am to go to the bathroom feeling well rested, but feeling the need for more sleep when the alarm goes off at 5am.

Pretty interesting responses. May look into the app that predicts sleep cycles and advises the time to set an alarm.
My only issue would be that sometimes it takes me awhile to get to sleep, and sometimes it's right away. I can never predict which it's gonna be.
