Random animal facts!!! (by James2112)
I love teaching ppl about animals so here is a continuing thread for that. The random animal fact of the day is about ostriches. Did you know that all the ostrich chicks in a flock of ostriches are taken care of by only 2 adult ostriches? That might sound easy but think of this an ostrich flock can have up to 300 chicks. Talk about babysitting!
Here's another random animal fact. A giraffes kick can crush a lions skull. The unusual thing is that unlike most four legged animals whose strongest kick is from the rear legs the giraffes is delivered from their front legs. They also are known to sleep for only 15 minutes at a time.
Wow! Tough job of 2 babysitters :D
OP, when are you going to discuss about insects?

I was just gonna get to insects. The biggest (meaning size and weight) insect is the goliath beetle it is as large as a dinner plate with legs splayed. The longest insect is a walking stick in madagascar. Millions of locusts (a form of migratory grasshopper) swarm africa several times a year destroying millions of crops. Talk about a bug problem.
Here's another insect fact. Some species of grasshoppers have a interesting way to counter overpopulation. When these species of grasshoppers become too crowded they molt and grow stronger legs and wings. Then they will take flight to find new feeding grounds that have enough food for all of them. This is what causes the migratory locust swarms.
Well not only Africa but Asia too. Locusts aside from mice are top crops destroyers
You're welcome I'll probably post stuff here periodically for everyone :)
