The little things (by YouCantFixStupid)
I saw an interview on the local news with a teen girl helping with the tornado clean up and found a soggy stack of papers that she saved....turns out it was an elderly couples marriage certificate with handwritten note of how they met and came to be married, a candy bar wrapper (they eloped and shared candy bar instead of wedding cake) and the newspaper announcement of their marriage. Watching the woman get reunited with her memories was beautiful to see. The joy in something so simple while standing in the midst of absolute devastation was quite moving for me, gives one hope.
@Rambler: thank you. I remain in awe of the strength and ability to overcome that shines so bright in human nature.
When I was actively working with the fire dept we had a Christmas eve fire...burned an older couples house down...during salvage, we found several pics of grandkids tht survived....I had the pleasure of handing them over to the woman....I might as well haven given her a million dollars, judging by her reaction
@YouCantFixStupid: all that glitters isn't gold. treasure can take any form. generosity doesn't have to be done on a grand scale to make an impact in someones lives.
