This Week's Dating.mobi Pet Peeve Confessional (by Andres)

Continuing this weekly series, please list your biggest pet peeve on the site. You know, the little (or big!) things you find annoying on the site that you would like fixed, changed, or removed. It can be things as simple as the location of a link on a certain page, to something as big as how an entire feature functions.

In return, I promise to fix at least 1 pet peeve every week.

I'm doing this because sometimes we just learn to "live with" pet peeves, but I don't want you guys to have to live with anything on the site that doesn't make your experience absolutely awesome, so this is a chance to get rid of those things that frustrate your experience here (note: your pet peeve cannot be another user! ;).

This isn't the place to request new features, as we already have an entire section for that. This is about giving you guys the opportunity to openly report issues with the site, while giving me a chance to hear directly from you guys and continuously improve the site on a weekly basis.

If you already see a pet peeve listed in the thread, make sure you also post about it so that I see which pet peeves are the most annoying and should be fixed first.

So what are you waiting for? Confess your biggest pet peeve on the site now!

I am new so I'm not sure if it exsists or not but I think a good idea would be some sort of notification when a new comment is added to a forum you've previously commented on it's slightly bothersome having to search through them all to find the ones you've commented on to see if there's anything new..

i agree with the notification on comments. so it wouldn't be hard for us to search topics that we have maybe left behind. thus, making the forums more active coz it's easy for us to track back the threads we have posted previously.

Although Premium users get E-mail Alerts to direct Forum replies when they are offline, I agree with both of you that it would help make the Forums more active if we notified all users of direct forum replies, regardless of whether they are online or offline. In fact, since adding the "Introduce yourself in the Forums" item to the To-Do list for new users, I noticed that several post their intro and never post again, possibly because they never realize they got any replies since we don't notify them.

That said, it would be difficult to notify every participant in the thread whenever there is a new post in that thread, and for that we already have the "Prior Posts" link at the top, which basically does just that (minus alerting you). So what I'm thinking is initially sending an internal message to your Datinbox whenever someone replies to you directly on the Forums (e.g. by hitting the "Reply" button on your post) regardless of whether you were online or not, also sending an E-mail Alert like we currently do to Premium users if you are offline, and then possibly also sending an alert to just the Thread author ("OP") whenever someone posts in their thread. Also, since some users are very active on the Forums, they might get bombarded with such alerts, so I would also have to add an option in "My Settings" to disable such Forum alerts.

That would be doable, what do you guys think? (Premium users, fear not, if I open up a Premium feature to all users, you know I will compensate you with an even better new & exclusive feature in return. :)

I wouldn't worry too much why people are giving you Negative Karma because they're allowed to give you Positive or Negative Karma for any reason they want. Just focus on being friendly and respectful and you'll end up getting more Positive than Negative Karma, which will result in you getting a growing Positive overall Karma Score next to your username.

@charmy22: the way i do it is after i click on forums link, i click prior posts, and just check who the last post was. If it is someone other than me, i check it out. Prior posts are all the threads you have posted on already.

So here's what I've done. From now on, when someone replies directly to any of your posts, you will receive a new internal message in your Datinbox alerting you to the new forum reply with a direct link to the thread. If you happen to be offline when you receive the forum reply, you will also receive an alert to your e-mail address with a direct link to the thread, like Premium users currently get (speaking of which, since Premium users are "losing" a feature that is now open to all, they'll be rewarded with 2 new features that I will post after this!).

Anyway, this new feature should help increase activity in the Forums, particularly from new users who might not be familiar with how the Forums operate.

So if you want the other user to be alerted to your Forum reply so they don't miss it, please make sure to hit the "Reply" button on their post and we'll send them an alert. Please make sure you always do this with New Users in Intro threads so that they come back to see your welcoming messages, and that hopefully engages them in the Forums.

The functionality of this feature is very basic at the moment, but I expect to add a few more options to it in the future. For now, please try it out and let me know what you guys think or if there are any bugs. Thanks!
