mk first of all, dont laugh but I dont do car maintenance. My car is almost repaired and it's an oldie but goodie. A 2004 Chevy. I understand the basics but am not very good at it. My bf most likely will help me check the oils, etc. But, what are some very simple car upkeep rules that I can do besides not running out of gas that will keep my car running and looking good. It mostly rains or is hot here in Florida but it does get its coldest in the months of January and February. I know whether matters too.

Grease ball joints on suspension check bushings for wear keep tires properly inflated change motor oil regularly use proper coolant mix not just water check belts for wear

You should change tires once in a year or 2. Old tires rltend to loose geip and you end up in excessive wheelspin during monsoon. proper coolant mix is correct. You should also check whether yoyr car has a leak near the fuel tank or near the drive shaft. Fuel leak results to lesser performance of car.

Grease ball joints on suspension check bushings.... Allldooo...lol But, I got the others and thank you so much! I do need to be better with having the tires rotated and the air pressure checks. ooh, and yes on the proper coolant mix. I know I will definitely need this in the colder months. What about the type of tires to buy for the rain? I've been researching tire models and I know it's all about the groove design in tires. The belts is another one I didn't know. We change them when they wear out usually, which is usually too late. So, I will have the belts checked more regularly.

Ahhh.... Thanks! I've been told to have tires rotated back to front. Is that right? And, when this should be done is important. So, every two years is when I should change them all? I think this was the extra problem the mechanic encountered...the fuel leak, ug. Can that be checked at simple places like AutoZone? They do free checks on most things.

Hi there Austinjordanvas. Well, driving it well and properly hasn't been any problem. That's all I kinda do lol omg, that's really good though. To have the car that long, you've got to be doing something right :)

@JustMeAndYou77: a good all season radial will be just fine don't let your tread get under 1/2 inch deep and watch for uneven tread wear a sign of alignment/suspension issues and your fuel system is pressurized so you should be able to smell a fuel leak

oh good.... I can go with good sturdy tires that are still reasonably priced! I found a way to get them at wholesale prices so that's very good. Thanks Aldo. You are very specific and it helps

Wait, what about tune up? How often should this be done? I just had the transmission redone so the mechanic told me I don't need a tune up now.
