@MrWalkSoftly: Are you in Harvey's path? We are expecting 6-10 inches from tonight till Friday night. Seems like pennies compared to Houston's 50 inches, but 10 inches will shut us down they are saying.

It'll only be a tropical depression when it gets here....they keep saying heavy rain but only sprinkles so far.
I'm in a great spot anyway...even the flood last March didn't bother me any.

Oh....and the obligatory Walks post...."I'll give ya 10 inches you'll love"

This is just plain horrible.....

""A toddler is in stable condition in Texas after she was found clinging to her drowned mother's body in a flooded canal during Tropical Storm Harvey.
The mother was seen trying to save her 18-month-old from a flooded parking lot when they were swept away into a ditch, a Beaumont fire-rescue official said.
A police and fire-rescue team in a boat found the pair about half a mile downstream.
The mother was unresponsive and her daughter suffering from hypothermia.
Captain Brad Pennison, a spokesman for the Beaumont fire-rescue department, told the BBC that police had already despatched emergency services once the woman's vehicle was spotted stuck in high water on a service road near Interstate 10.
A witness saw her pull into a flooded parking lot, where her car became stuck, and attempt to walk away with the child before they were overcome by a nearby overflowing drainage ditch, he said.
Two firefighters and two police officers were among those who caught the Beaumont residents just before they were about to be swept under a railway trestle.
The emergency responders began performing CPR on the daughter until a neighbour used his pick-up truck to transport them to a nearby ambulance, Mr Pennison added.
The identities of the mother and daughter are being withheld until the father, who was out of town at the time of the incident, has been notified.""

@MrWalkSoftly: I'd heard about the baby clinging to the mom, that was heartwrenching. Today, on the news, they showed the van with the great-grandparents and the kids. It was incredibly sad to see family standing in a circle. They were understandably so heartbroken and apparently the family went looking for the van as soon as the water receded enough and made the discovery.

Edit: I heard incorrectly this morning. An officer made the discovery.

It's just started. The hurricane and wind and rain and floods are just the opening act. This cleanup is gonna take a looooooooong time.....

Edited to add- And watch, as the recovery process gets underway, how politicized this will get. The media won't have the rescues to splash across headlines...and people working their ass off repairing homes isn't very interesting to them....so the blame game will begin....over a disaster no one could have predicted.

@MrWalkSoftly: It already has becoming political; with certain organizations not accepting homosexual volunteers, reporters getting lashed-out at for alerting the police of looters, Joel Osteen not opening his mega-church to the public until he was bashed online about it, and with Trump not stopping in Houston during his Texas visit. There's already a buzz-buzz building up.

Id let a gay guy help me

Saw a great video of a guy guarding his business from looters with a shotgun...will try to find and post it.

Don't know the specifics on Osteen...have seen several different sides to the story.

Somebody would bitch about Trump if he DID show up in Houston...think he'll be there Saturday, btw....so we'll see if they bitch then.

Had a whackjob "activist" in Baton Rouge criticize the Cajun Navy for being "alt right" on FB 2 days ago...she got lit up.
I'm sure there will be more idiots losing their damn minds in the days to come.
