Abusing them.

Letting them manipulate you-ie: giving in to their tantrums etc.

Depriving their rights ...

Talking the other parent down to them .

Using your kids for your own selfishness...our job is to give our kids a foundation to live their own lives as adults and to teach them to value themselves. When we fail at that, by whatever means, we have done them a grave disservice. Imho

I don't think there is just one big mistake but if I had to pick one it's:
NEVER ever EVER put your child down so far that they feel unloved, unwanted and that killing themselves is the only option. Don't EVER make your child feel like they're the reason for all your issues [be it money, job stress or marriage woes]. I repeat DO NOT make your child feel like that. Do NOT tear them down [calling them stupid, worthless, lazy, ungrateful and a million other names] because trust me it DOES NOT FEEL GOOD. So to sum up: DO NOT BE AN ASS TO YOUR CHILDREN.

Lmao! I remember a pic of my youngest sis, w a bud can tipped up to her mouth-she was about two... She actually turned out pretty good-college grad and all!;-)lol!
