Growing and Standing (by Sweetred73)

You tried to tear me down
Tried to destroy me
And you almost succeeded
ALMOST

I let your words blind me
Let you lead me down a dark path
Full of dead ends and painful thorns
I almost gave up hope of ever getting off this path
Of the wounds from the thorns ever healing
ALMOST

Don't wanna be blind anymore
Don't wanna fail
Don't wanna hurt anymore
Don't wanna fall
Gotta believe in those that wanna help
Till I can believe in me

I've got people that believe in me
People that care
Showing me a new brighter path
Not an easy path
The thorns still scare me
The thorns still hurt, but I'm

Not gonna be blind anymore
Not gonna fall
Not gonna hurt as much not gonna fail
I believe in those helping me
Starting to believe in me

This new path is getting clearer
Though I've still got a way to go
The thorns are more of a memory
The wounds mostly healed
My vision's cear
I'm growing, succeeding
I'm standing strong
Believing in me
Loving me!

I see the thorns haven't been there for a long time
It was my memories that made them real
So focused on the thorns I never saw the roses
Till now

*This is my own journey of healing and growing from trauma. Hope it touches and encourages others

@james85: hang in there. Hopefully you'll eventually find that these dark times are actually a blessing for they have made you a better, stronger man.

I've been through a lot of trauma but have no regrets for they have made me more compassionate and understanding of others who are struggling, I also tend 2b less judgemental of people that perhaps don't make the healthiest choices and I cherish even the smallest joys & blessings.

@Sammy2: of course, by all means!

SinnedlD and Saytope I rarely keep what I write but I think I have one more...it's kind of long but also about healing. And next week i can ask a friend if she still has a silly thing I wrote.
Thanks for the feedback. It means a lot.

@xSinneDx: found it. This one's about healing with help/guidance from friends. I actually wrote this one for a therapist when she moved. It'll take a bit to type it.

Sometimes throughout our lives
We encounter angels
We don't always recognize them
For their wings are very unique
Made of materials foreign to so many.
Wings that appear delicate and fragile
Our angels show us these wings are created
With wisdom and courage.
They share their wings and teach
That when combined with winds called hope
We can begin to fly.
But suddenly we remember
These wings cannot be trusted
For once, we had wings as well
But they failed us, causing us to fall often
Each fall more painful
So we discarded them. Buried deep and forgotten
But with patient smiles
The angels help find our long lost wings
And show us it wasn't the wings that failed
But rather, storms of toxic people
That made our hope winds unstable.
Gradially robbing us of hope altogether
Our angels guide us to trust our wings again
To value their unique, intricate beauty and strength
Sometimes these angels must move on
Forever lingering in our hearts and minds
We soon realize that with the combined
Guidance of all the angels we've met
We've flown higher and farther than
Ever thought possible
And are now angels ourselves
Our wings strong
Showing others how to keep soaring
Even through unstable winds.
