Angels (by MissJessica86)

Today I was at the grocery store with three of my children to grab diapers and a few essential groceries before the big snow storm. Picture if you may: single mother, two screaming toddlers the cart, over hyper first grader in tow. (they're normally very very well behaved and good tempered but I think they were feeding off my negative energy: migraine + stressed) So we go to cash out, and I can only imagine how I looked to the girl at the register. No makeup, hair a mess, identifiable white stain down the front of my coat. Anyway while we wait in line I open a package of cookies for the girls. The cashier rings us through, and I swipe my card to pay. There is an error reading the card, four swipes later my card is frozen for twentyfour hours. I count the cash in my purse: just enough for the diapers. But the cookies were opened. I tell the girl at the register I don't know what to do, my girls NEED those diapers. She says "well ma'am you opened the cookies you have to pay for them first". I am beyond frustrated. Throwing my money on the counter I walk away in tears empty handed, my frustration upsetting the kids causing all three of them to melt down as well. As I stand in front of the store crying, trying to calm my babies and contact the bank a woman comes up to me and gives me a hug. At that same moment a gentleman in store uniform comes out with a bag of diapers. I said "I can't pay for those" he smiled and said "the girl at your register took care of it". I was completely shocked. The woman who had hugged me said "see there are angels taking care of you". Again the man returned with the babies opened cookies. I told him thank you. The woman said "you'll be ok. Look, the babies are calming down. Look how beautiful they are. You are truly blessed. There are angels all around you." She said goodbye and I went back into the store to thank the cashier for paying for my babies cookies. She smiled and said "it's nothing". As I left the store with my now smiling tribe, I realised I truly am surrounded by angels.

I know this is long and probably seems silly, but these two women taught me the value of a kind word and a good deed today. I am very grateful.

@Sammy2: Thank you, it's been so long since I've written anything I was afraid it wouldn't do the experience justice. I am truly enlightened and hope one day to be able to touch someone's life in the same way.
