What are some weird things Americans do that are considered weird or taboo in your country? (by Sparky)

@TheCelt: actually no, im not going to argue for the death penalty. I won't argue against it either. Whether or not it's an effective deterrent is questionable. If someone is so devoid of any restraint against raping, molestation or killing as many seem to be, then it's a moot point. What the death penalty does insure is that those who ARE guilty of whatever heinous crime they are convicted of will never be able to do so again. As for my questions about Irish law, I'm only trying to educate myself about other countries. I'm not slamming you or your country.

@Amyt: America isn't the only country that allows for legal prostitution. The Netherlands also has some form of it, or so I've been told. And for the record, the only state here that allows it is Nevada. It's not a nationwide policy.
thank you kelly for saying that, prostitution isn't legal over here, but isn't it in other countries?

@1honestman: innocent men have been proven to have been put to death in the past , and quite a few people have been sentenced to die but have later been proven innocent , so for that reason alone capitol punishment should be stopped imo
I agree
I'm all for a more foolproof system being put in place that would eliminate such horrendous errors and tragic mistakes from happening. There's no doubt that innocent people have died due to failures within our judicial system. I just don't know what the solution to such tragic miscarriages of justice would be. Perhaps that would be a good topic for discussion deserving a thread to itself?

@1honestman: the thing is though the people that commit crimes bad enough to get sentenced to death in your country are in a very small minority , its the low level criminals that you really should be worried about re offending once released from prison , cuz they are the sort of crimes that are likely to effect you personally and not the headline mass murderers or whatever , and as for prisons in ireland , irelands entire prison population is 3 times less than what the prison population is on rikers island in new york for example , so its no surprise that you would be more worried about prisoners getting released early than i would lol

@xlace75x: besides Holland, I'm not sure. From what little I've read about Japanese culture, the geisha comes close to what we here consider to be a form of prostitution. But my limited understanding of that ancient tradition is that it's not quite the same as what our society defines prostitution to be.

I
also question the need for the average
citizen to own an RPG launcher or a
machine gun.
Rpg's arent legal for anyone and machine guns are only legal for a select few.......although i can make a damn good argument why they both shld be legal for all law abiding citizens.
