@Briteeyes: all i'm doing is signing papers saying i want to get custody. Then the other relatives will be given a copy of it and time will be taken if anyone objects to it. My lawyer said it could take up to 6 months for everything to go through. 2 months if everything goes smoothly. It also helps that the parents put me as the godmother in case of an emergency. But they said i'm looking at about $15,000 court cost if theres an objection. But like many of you have advised me, i'm takin it a step at a time ^.^

Didnt see this response earlier. You're welcome and I was adopted with full consent from me too, though I was 13 or so. Even then took a chunk of money. I think if you can do it, want to. Sounds like no matter the time and such, sounds like its worth it for you and him.
