My fianc? (32m) forgets that I?m (25f) lactose intolerant and eats my food
I?m really sensitive to lactose. Gives me terrible stomach pain and skin rashes, both of which he?s seen me go through.
He can?t seem to remember that I can?t have dairy. He asks me at every meal if I want cheese or some other dairy product. I kindly remind him, no I?m not able to eat cheese.
I do almost all of the cooking and grocery shopping, so typically I can make meals that are fine for me. I get cheese for him.
I get alternatives for myself for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I also get things for him that he likes, but it seems like every item I get for myself, he eats it right away. I have to make multiple trips to the grocery store so that I have options to eat. I?ve tried telling him ?I got these because they don?t have dairy so I can have them for breakfast.? I want to share with him, but?. It?s starting to make me uncomfortable because when I go to have breakfast or a snack, I find that there?s nothing for me. This feeling is probably compounded because I had food insecurity growing up.
He did remember once recently, when someone offered me cheese. He responded, ?no, she doesn?t like cheese.? I explained that I wish I could eat it, but have lactose intolerance.
I recently met a friend for pizza. He told me to get something with cheese, and I told him sadly I can?t have it so would get a marinara. He responded that his girlfriend is the same, and it launched a conversation about all of the things they make together that don?t have dairy. To be honest, the conversation was really refreshing.
How can I nicely help my fianc? understand, and ask him to stop eating the foods I get for myself?
TLDR: fianc? doesn?t remember that I?m lactose intolerant, and eats my food. How can I bring this up to him?
