I [23 F] loaned my boyfriend [25 M; 8 months] some money. Now I really need him to pay me back, he doesn't want to see me until he can.
So a couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend found himself in a tight spot and I loaned him $300 to get through. We agreed he would pay me back when he got his next paycheck.
Now I'm in what feels like a kind of desperate situation due to unforeseen circumstances. I'm scrambling to find money to pay for my credit card bills, buy groceries, and my university wants $500 from me. I cried today when my boyfriend told me he didn't have the money to pay me back. I was counting on that money to at least pay my credit card bills and buy me some groceries. I told him I never should have loaned him the money in the first place.
He kept telling me it was his own fault and that he's a bad person and he made a mistake, but he was saying these things in a very self-centered kind of woe-is-me way if that makes sense. "you hate me now?" "you dont want to speak with me?" things like that. He left my apartment this afternoon saying that I won't hear from him until he has my money.
Aside from my money problems, I'm upset that he's seemed to refocus this problem onto him. I wouldn't be so mad at him if i felt like he was listening to what I told him and if we had been more focused on my problems and how we can fix them. Instead he made everything about himself and acted a little bit dramatic instead of trying to find an actual solution or make a sincere apology.
We haven't spoken all afternoon, and I guess he isn't going to talk to me until he has money to give me. I've been working on finding my own solution, and I'm making progress, but I'm really upset by the way he acted this afternoon.
What should I do?
TL;DR: I loaned my boyfriend money. now that i really need it back he doesn't have it. I cried. He told me he isn't going to see me or speak with me until he has the money. What should I be doing?
