Setting in the living room in the main house,I was going over what I was going to say,how I was going to tell the boss I had been seeing kate. I swallowed hard as Cal Hayes came and sat down across from me in one of the oversized calfskin chairs.Mrs Hayes coming behind him with a pitcher of tea,placing them on table,smiling like she already knew. " Well where's kate at?" If this all that important she'd already be here.!` Cals voice boomed in the cavernous room. " Here I am daddy` Kate bounde down the steps her fiery curls bouning and flashing that smile. She was a sight! I was wishing I could kiss her again. The rest of the hands joshed me about running if the boss came out with a shotgun,looking around I hadn't seen one,I breathed a sigh of relief. " What is it you you wanted to tell me son" Cal set swirling his glass impatiently. "Um well ....mr hayes I don't know how to tell you this,but I'm just gonna come out and say it,I've been keepin my distance for a few years now,and kate being your daughter,well its like this ,there's nothing else I can do or say,I lost my heart to kate when I first saw her...a long time ago,I'm asking if I could keep seeing her,even if it means I lose my job at the ranch"
