FORT WORTH, Texas - A North Texas doctor returned to DFW airport Sunday after spending the last ten days in Liberia, treating people with the Ebola virus.

Like fellow North Texas missionary Dr. Kent Brantly, Dr. Todd Phillips was working at the epicenter of the Ebola outbreak in Liberia.

Dr. Kent Brantly returned to the United States on Saturday to receive treatment for Ebola. He walked into Emory University Hospital in Atlanta with minimal help.

Samaritan’s Purse, the charity Dr. Brantly was working with, says his condition is improving.

In a statement, the charity also said Dr. Brantly received a dose of experimental serum before returning to the U.S. Dr. Brantly previously refused the serum, instead making sure it went to another American missionary battling Ebola, Nancy Writebol. She is expected to return to the U.S. on Tuesday.

Writebol will be taken to the same hospital where Dr. Brantly is being treated. Writebol was working as a missionary nurse in Liberia when she was infected with Ebola.

Dr. Todd Phillips says it was difficult coming back to the U.S. through DFW airport.

"They beefed up security, there were screeners at two different locations, screening for fevers with an ear screener, for fevers and also they just looked at your eyes just to see how your overall look was.”

Phillips is the founder and director of a Christian charity called The Last Well. Phillips says he often works with the staff of Samaritan’s Purse. He says he had dinner with several staff members that worked in the isolation center where Dr. Brantly contracted the Ebola virus. "We prayed for them we sat down we talked with them and we expressed our concern for them and told them we would be praying for them over the 21 days."

Those team members, he says, were flown to Kenya to be kept in quarantine for three weeks. "We're trying to reach the whole country with water and the gospel."

Despite the threat of the deadly virus spreading, Phillips says he is determined to bring clean water to all of Liberia by 2020.

There is no cure for the Ebola virus, but Dr. Phillips says there is something that can be done about contaminated water. "The same number of people that have died from Ebola all three countries over the last nearly six months, that same number of people die in Liberia every single week from waterborne illness. So this Ebola screams internationally of its presence, attention, and this silent killer waterborne illness never gets a whimper."

Dr. Phillips says he believes the Liberian government is taking the Ebola virus threat seriously and doing the best they can to contain it.

Either way, he says he will be going back within the next six months to carry on his mission of bringing clean, safe drinking water to all Liberians.

@Poshyhawt: you relize how fast this **** spreads? You relize there is no cure? You relize how fast it can devestate a continent? You relize how serious this is? Im guessing none to all above statements.

Oh and this too! 10 minutes from me!

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Summer hasn't even begun and already two counties in our area have had confirmed cases of West Nile virus in mosquitoes. The first was Brazoria County. The newest confirmed case is from south Montgomery County.

The Woodlands Township is doing spraying on many of the streets and storm drains. Right now, the confirmed cases were found only in mosquitoes. No humans have tested positive, and they want to keep it that way.

At North Shore Park, the Rowing Club of The Woodlands is preparing for the junior national championships. The Gomez brothers will compete this weekend, but training means a lot of hours outdoors -- and exposure to mosquitoes.

"They actually haven't been that bad this year. Maybe it's just because it's been really hot, I don't know. It wasn't as bad a last year, that's for sure," said Hugo Gomez, a member of the Rowing Club of The Woodlands.

"Some days, they're really bad, like whenever we're sitting by the boat house, but most days it's not that bad," said his brother, Andrew Gomez.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says sample mosquitoes from this area tested positive for the West Nile virus, so it is urging everyone to protect themselves, especially those who are active outdoors.

While we haven't had a lot of rain lately, it hasn't stopped mosquitoes from finding breeding sites.

"You want to wear sunscreen or repellent. You can get a combination of something that will keep them away. There's always something out there that can do harm to you," said Rowing Club of The Woodlands coach Mike Rosman.

The disease-carrying mosquitoes are most active from the dusk-to-dawn hours.

The Woodlands Township is also asking homeowners in particular to help out by eliminating any standing water they might see.
