In my humble country , rich people are always the subject of tax evasion .

If, Richness is accumulated thru hardwork , frugality & another hardwork .. Do you think it's fair ?

@Rainbowbutterfly:
Texes are unavoidable but there should be some logic behind it . i
believe taxes should be rational . if taxes paid by hardworking and
effecient people promotes bungling and inefficiency by the govt. , then whats the
point of higher tax rates ?

@ sweet .. Yes, they do pay taxes but most of rich people are entrepreneurs, and a country with a wild wild west form of government , most of the time, it's the poor people like me who pay honest taxes . So let's say, if wealthy people would pay 20% tax while 10% tax for poor people..

However, it would also discourage other citizen to strive harder and bd successful ..

@ sing ..I don't know how government is in India but in my homeland , unfortunately ... Corruption is rampant :( .

The point of giving higher tax with the wealthy people is since most aren't likely honest in paying such , doubling their taxes still equates the taxes paid by poor citizens since I personally doubt , corruption will be eradicated in the near future..

@Singhpk: Are most of wealthy people there in your country also have connections with politics?

Do they support/ campaign politicians during election?

I agree with you besides most of them are not working but only give commands to employees who does the hard work but if you gain your wealth thru honest hardwork then it's gonna be unfair too ..

@Rainbowbutterfly: Its absolutely true , if you have the right connections you can become rich overnight . its the poor guys like us who work their backsides off , have to bear the burden of taxes .

True and what I hate much is during the filing of assets & liabilities ! Geeeehhh we ( ordinary employees ) must list down everything you have and the " boss " will strictly scrutinize them ! When in fact , some of wealthy people only declare little about their assets excluding they purchase abroad or they name the property to other person ! Same in your country ?

@Rainbowbutterfly: Oh yes! The rich here make extensive use of foreign banks to hide their true assets. The Cayman Islands are a very popular place to have a bank account.
