Would you rather every living thing on earth be destroyed, or be part of the 10k surviours of a cataclysmic event.
The unknown cataclysmic event is the same, in one scenario all living things are wiped out, the earth remains but it completely barren. In the second scenario, you live but your loved ones may not have survived, it is up to you and the other 9,999 people to try and pull through, but there is no food or plant/animal life. Sea water still exists but is badly contaminated. Any man made non-perishable item still exists.
