[UPDATE] My (23/F) boyfriend (31/M) keeps buying me things I don't want and he just won't stop
Original Post
I wanted to post this update because so many people suggested the "Five Love Languages," and it really helped! My boyfriend and I honestly have such a better understanding of each other now. I read the book and we both took the online test.
First, we talked and agreed not to bother buying an engagement ring. I would never wear a fancy once, so we figured it's better to just get wedding bands when we eventually do get married. The same now goes for other gifts; my boyfriend has realized I really just don't need any presents and, if he feels the need to buy me something, I very much prefer something small and simple like flowers.
Second, realizing that 'things' don't mean as much to me as actions or activities do, my boyfriend made a 'bucket list' for us to both add to. We've found some activities to add to it that we'd like to do together. One which meant a lot to me was that my boyfriend added 'Run a half marathon.' The man is virtually allergic to exercise, so the fact that he wants to start running with me (running is a favorite activity of mine) means a lot.
Finally, now that I know my boyfriend likes giving and receiving gifts to show affection, I've started buying him little things to show I care instead of just saying it or expressing it in other ways. I can tell it means a lot to him. He was super excited when I got a NatureBox delivered to his office a couple days ago. :)
Anywho, thank you to everyone who gave some solid advice! I will be highly recommending the 5 Love Languages in the future :)
