Do obese people need same rights? (by james85)
Do obese people need the same legal protection gay and disabled folk enjoy to prevent discrimination in the workplace? Should businesses provide wider seats to accommodate bigger bottoms and be sued if they don’t? Many overweight people feel they are victimised but unlike colour, sexuality or a disability, you can change your size. So do obese people deserve similar legal rights?
@james85: Color, & disability, is what it is. Sexuality, well that is debatable (depending whom you ask), weight is controlable, for the most part. If we begin, making allowances for big people. Then what next? So far we have not, in most places, done so for 'little people' or children, or extra tall people. I just don't see and end to this notion of 'make everyone happy who complains loudly'
I have to say this and maybe ill get some criticism for saying this but weight is down to choice.
You can choose to be big/fat/obese or you can choose to diet and be thin/slim/petite.
I personally think, and don't get me wrong I have nothing against large people but I think they should monitor what they eat as they only seem to complain about their weight and yet don't really seem to do anything other than eat. People in Britain are getting so fat we have to have reinforced ambulances to take them to hospital when they have a heart attack which is most likely due to the type/amount of food thy eat.
I apologize if I offend people but the truth normally does.

Pretty soon my cat will be able to sue me for overfilling his bowl...
I understand that opinions will vary widely on this topic but heavier people do have the same rights as others to avoid discrimination in general.
Yes they do have the same rights but surely if they were that worried about being discriminated against or "bullied/picked on/judged" then they have the choice of doing something about it right?!
@Notlikeothers: A number of years ago I had interviewed for a job and the employer said quote in order to meet government quota we extended the offer to the heavy set lady.Hence the employer made it a factor not the lady.
@titans69ad well I'm sorry you didn't get the job but there's been loads of times when "heavy-set" people haven't got the job, maybe because there too big.
I don't really want to go into the politics of big people getting jobs etc as its not my day, but all I am saying is that in my opinion, being OBESE is a choice.
If we cater for these people then were technically saying its okay to be obese and for health reasons it absolutely not ok and our kids should know what problems being obese causes.
Oh and I don't really want to go to the beach and see some woman who's size 60 in a thong and a push up bra.

More PC bullsh!t.....for every one person that didnt get a job because they were "fat, gay, too little, have a big nose, have a limp, their daddy left" or whatever stupid reason that happens to be the complaint of the day, there are ten with the same issue that forged ahead and succeeded. It aint abt how you got knocked down.....its abt how you get up.
