A buzzard, if placed in a pen, 6 to 8ft wide, and entirely open at the top will remain a prisoner there the rest of its life.... despite his ability to fly:( The reason is that a buzzard needs at least a run of 10 to 12 feet in order to begin flight..... The ordinary bat flies at night and is a remarkably nimble creature in the air-yet cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air......A bumblebee, when dropped into an open tumbler, or can, remains there until it dies or is released. It never sees the means of escape at the top, and persists in trying to find its way out by ramming the sides or bottom until it completely destroys itself:(.....In many ways some people are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee.
