@Rainbowbutterfly: lol....So, I've always wondered why China had 2 major languages.
It's not my native language, but is the language of my ancestors:

Rich, they considered Mandarin as an old standard language while Cantonese is full of slang and non standard. Chinese write Mandarin while most speaks Cantonese. More Cantonese speakers are from develop regions and countries like HK, Macao and Singapore and Chinese merchants across the globe
