Should We (Americans) Learn English As A Second Language In School? (by JustMeAndYou77)

Shockingly (not really) I'm seeing mandarin as the language with the most speakers. Spanish and english a close second.

Yea one laungage would be intresting, but do people have the time & iq for it.I speak 5 laungages fluently and write & read 7.And sadly its up to the parents to primarily teach their kids a second laungage.Im teaching my lil babys 3 laungages right now, cause i know that yes theyll learn something in school, but only the basics. And the basics of any laungage will not help you succeed.

@CGPhillips: youre right. and thats part of the reason i want my kids to be trilingual. there too young right now so im only teaching english for the moment. when they start school ill teach them more spanish, and when im more fluent and confident in japanese ill teach them that too. not for any particular reason other than aiding in thier language and communication skills. now when theyre old enough ill push them to want to learn more languages but i wont force them.

@CGPhillips: humankind has survived and evolved for over a million years, created and destroyed nigh on countless empires, advanced technology to the point where extra-planetary colonization is a possibility and created forms of mass global communication(which we are using right now lol). So a new language shouldn be a huge deal. Besides, it would take three to five generations to really pick up anyway, as most ppl would assume it was just a fad or something like that.

btw paul, i wasnt being a jerk with that. I just feel that people tend to underestimate themselves as a species sometimes, and was expounding on how far we have come. E.g humans can be epic at times lol

@LovelySummeRayne:millions of years, dang thats a long time, funny though throughout all that time history has shown that the things that should have brought us together as humans, have only made it worse.Like people trying for one universal religion, one universal law, and government, one system of money,so of course we could try for one laungage. And it might happen,it just might. Its a good idea yes,but it should never happen.Cause like you said clearly history has shown that we have evolved and become a better race and better at doing things together.Doh,oh wait no we havent.

Well im not trying to start a argument on evulotion, theology,or anything like that.It be nice to do one laungage in a ways. But first wed have to have one government to enforce it,the religions would have to have their txtbooks translated into that laungauge. And if time has taught us anything people are sensitive about politics and religion.
