Should We (Americans) Learn English As A Second Language In School? (by JustMeAndYou77)

I am asking this question out of personal thought as well as a recent real life discussion. Personally, I believe we should learn English as a second language because we are born and raised already speaking it. I feel that we are behind because we spend all of our school years learning a language we already are accustomed to and don't really spend time learning others, except to meet prerequisites in order to graduate. I believe all Americans should be somewhat bilingual and at least speak Spanish more fluently.

Spanish is definitely the language I am confronted with most so that makes sense as it being a primary choice aside from other languages

we should learn many languages! at least 2 others. say french and spanish or japanese and hindi. we get mad when they come to our country and dont know our language. its the hardest dam language on earth. so we should be taught in school at least 2 other main languages.

Hi Specter. I am actually partial to the French language lol So, it's not my personal preferance. I named Spanish because it is definitely the second language in this country. We have like at least 5 Spanish channels on television, a separate prompt for customer service lines, and groceries are even in Spanish. Hell, jobs...are in Spanish lmao This is my biggest point. Also, why spend more time learning a language we already know. We should learn the basics of grammar, etc...structure and move on. Globalization is where the money is. We're upset because jobs are shipped overseas. Would they be, if we were equipped to speak the languages of others?
