Hi, I have a cat but have thought about also getting a very small dog. Ive been learning that a small dog is very high maintenance and fragile. So how big or small would you prefer a dog to be and why?

i use to breed chawahwahs but i currently own a husky and a lab. I do prefer larger dogs. Smaller tend to be scared of alot of stuff such as noise or someone moving to fast. Jack russels are kinda cute as well

Ahhh, thanks Nicole! I have always like the Bassett Hound and Beagel but the Bassett Hound would be way too big for the apt and the beagel is a much better size but I would have to muzzle him lol I am into the very small dogs but ya...I dont want to end up stepping on it or something. I saw a bite-sized poodle recently and OMGGG. It's so cute!!

@JustMeAndYou77: Hi i have a pomeranian mixed with chihuaua and she is still here at 19 yrs old and will be 20yrs february 13th she is a very strong and vibrant dog , and still shows no sign of giving up , yet i know when its time it will come all at once. So all i wanted to say my opinion would be a small dog, but that's just me. Have a good evening. Shawn.

@JustMeAndYou77: have u seen my list of pets? Its in the pet section and i got a new bunny last night! My huskey did good in an appt for a while. O personally after experementing with diffrent dogs would go for a medium dog. There are some quieter breeds then other i would just do google research. (i dont condone uses of muzzles). Now as a vet i would not reccomend something to small or something that gets ill alot. I see people with small dogs come in with heat stroke or other reasons such as jumped off the couch and sprained a paw... (yes it happens) research is the best. :)

Hi Shawn and thank you too :) Wow, yes that's a good long life span for a miniature dog. 19 yrs, amazing. So, I guess I have to take in consideration the breed of the dog. I do know that the smaller dogs cost a bit more. Is this true?

Yes its mostly true small dogs that are pure bread are expensive like the small yorkshire terriers for example they are tattooed , also big dogs in that catagory are expensive as well.

Ah, mk.... Let me ask yall this. What do you think about owning both a cat and small dog in an apt? Do you think they'd get along? My cat is about 7 yrs old now. She's the runt and she has ruled her little kingdom (let's not forget I just pay the bills lol) by herself for that long. I thought about a kitten but I cant see two of them hanging from my curtain lmao I have wanted a small dog for a while.

that will depend on the cat. normally, from what i have seen, cats get scared, and swipe the dog first when the dog is just being playfully curious.
