Should We (Americans) Learn English As A Second Language In School? (by JustMeAndYou77)

But Some other Asian countries , English isn't that mandatory . If you study in an international school then English is the medium of communication . Most elite Asians barely write and speak their native tongue . We are inlove to English language which is cool . I may not be enjoyingthe fun of virtual world if I can't speak English .. :)

Spanish is definitely the language I am confronted with most so that makes sense as it being a primary choice aside from other languages
Hey girl and thanks for posting. Yes, I agree. I think Spanish should be taught as a core language just as much as English since to be honest we are already sharing and are apart of the culture.

we should learn many languages! at least 2 others. say french and spanish or japanese and hindi. we get mad when they come to our country and dont know our language. its the hardest dam language on earth. so we should be taught in school at least 2 other main languages.
Hi there Paul! Yes, I absolutely agree. This seems the progressive atmosphere today and why we're opposed to it as a progressive society is still beyond me. Really, what is American culture based on? So, without pushing ourselves to be more and do more how can we benefit from...more? I do believe it must begin with our youth. We are locked away in our minds as adults and it's not impossible to learn other languages as adults but not without having an open mind and fresh start.

Hola! Hehe :-)
Ah, lol. You said bye in Spanish. I know that much of it lol Do you know it somewhat or fluently? I mostly took French in school because it was fun and more attractive to me. I enjoyed it but remember only the basics. I didnt have to use it in everyday life. With everything the way it is now, I wish the school would have enforced Spanish lessons every year. Bilinguals earn more money.

Well i dont believe english should be a second language at all in schools.Yes some americans are born speaking english. But why its taught in school is still primarily because not many know the proper usage.Take for instance spelling, grammar, punctuation. Its taught in school because not many know english, they speak english yes.But do they understand how to use english in all forms,i.e. Reading writing,no they dont.If the parents actually were quite capable and
CG, my lord.... Why are you in the corner??? I see you are dunced. Im just wondering so dont reply. I was just surprised to see it. Anyways, please re-read my introduction to this thread. I dont think English should not be taught in classrooms. I believe we need grammar, structure etc on a scholastic level though...not a fluency one. Reality is, we're going to have our dialects. We need to be fluent in another language as well. Whether we approve that Spanish should be that language or not, we're sharing the culture.

personally i think that a; if yu goto a foreign country yu should learn that language, at least enough for basic communication -that also applies to ppl coming here- and b; that ppl should realize by now that "every known human was born on Earth, and we are the same in most ways." Why not just create a new language that all ppl speak??? It seems like the next logical step, since then -everyone- could communicate with -everyone-, regardless of where they were born or whatever. See my point? Keep the culture, but use common sense, i mean we all live on
Yes, I also think this is true. Im not asking for Spanish to be America's national language. If that happens we would have 20 different national languages lol I do think however that we should at least be sharing the second most spoken language as we are already sharing the culture. And, it is within American society and culture. It just seems pretty odd that it's still a prerequisite.

I wouldn't want Spanish to be the language we should all learn. I am tongue-tied so I can't speak Spanish at all. I'm not sure if I could speak French...I don't think so. Haitian Creole is what I was TRYING to learn, but I never got to continue learning it. I only remember a few things. It is broken French though.
