Anyone got an astronomy question? Ask Cosmic! (by CosmicWebb)
Finally! I`m havin trouble postin replys, sorry! I tried 2 explain it in simpler terms, but my phone or site keeps messin up. I`ll try again when I am done eating. THANKS 4 POINTING OUT MY ERROR! I had company&wasnt concentrating.
Ophiuchus: serpent holder or doctor. I had to dig up a 1977 Funk and Wagnalls Dictionary to find it. I love my dictionaries. I hear you about that speed tapping only to have it not go through. I've learned that if I do nothing but go back a page and re-send it sometimes takes. But not often. I hate that. I'm going to poke around in some of the other posts.
I typed equinox for ecliptic. Yeah,I`ve spent hours typing only to be unable 2 post it! I go back&all that, but it only works 1/3 of the time. I`m going to go through and try 2 post less jargon-filled answers.
WoW.... I have always wanted to watch the grandeur of the universe through a telescope but I was also afraid of what might look back lol Anyway, that's spectacular. I hope I am able to watch an eclipse at some point in my life. That is what I really would like to see.

@JustMeAndYou77: Well you will have to wait till 2017 to see the next Solar eclipse visible in the US. Lunar eclipses occur twice a year. I`ve observed 12. There are two partial lunar eclipses in 13 and 2 total l es in 14. U need dates ask.
Hi honey. I'm still looking for those danged binoculars. back in the days of 11, 12yrs ago they cost me 110$ I can barely keep my britches for the want to learn to use them anew.
Damn, every 5 yrs huh? Id also like to see the Lunars also. Ive never seen any! I think it'd be amazing. Where are the best places to watch them from?
Yes, dates would be great Cosmic. I'll jot them down and give them to my bf cause I wont remember a darn thing lmfao He's better at that anyway. You'll come back to forum and ask me how was it and my response would be, how was what?lol I cant wait to see them though. Will binoculars work for that? I do have a pair.
No,I didn`t mean they occur every 5yrs. I was just saying the next 1 visible in the US that will be a total eclipse is Aug. 21,2017. NO!! Never EVER look at the Sun with binoculars, even during an eclipse! Never look directly at the sun for more than a split second! I still can see an after-image of the sun from 13 years ago!!! I was young and THOUGHT I knew what I was doing! So,please, noone look at the Sun unless you are an actual astronomer with proper safety precautions. Back to eclipses. Eclipses are caused when the moon is in the direct path of the sun. This occurs on a cycle of 6 mos.The moon will eclipse the sun 2 wks before the Earth eclipses the moon,or vice-versa. Sometimes it`s possible for 3 eclipses in a row,2 weeks apart. So it`s possible to see 7 eclipses in a year. I believe 2038 is next 1. All eclipses are not total eclipses like u r wanting 2 see. Most are partial with a lot of complicated jargon I won`t get into. Lunar eclipses are safely and easily observed with binoculars or the naked eye. Eclipses are only visible from parts of the Earth,so you should google "eclipses visible from ur town" to find out when the next 1 above you is. Thanks, and I hope this helps. Anything else?
