@witchywoman1981: hey i respect that... and we all have different parenting styles. my kids rarely deserve a swat, but when all else fails thats when its time to powder the hand and swat that butt. my kids love me very much. they tell me every single day and do things to show it. i dont want them to fear me..... but the consequences of thier actions. and ill only use extreme force at a certain age. and thats only if i cant contain them any other way.

Different strokes, for different folks. My Father is a very gentle soul, he slapped, even used a belt once when i was five, as we (my Brother & Sisters ) got older, his way was to try talk sense & understanding into us. As he would say, "The penny will drop one day" Now my Mother on the other hand, took no guff from any of us. That said she was fair, (Of course at the time, I didnt see that) Growing up i was a right handful, Very defiante! lol its only now when i look back that i appreciate all the slaps & Discipline. My Parents are my best friends :-) Cause i know now with all the discipline they dished out kept me on the straight & narrow (Well to a degree) So, to Paul you sound like a Good Father, just but fair. As my Father would say when i was growing up, "Son, you came into my life, I didnt come into yours, i am your Parent First, later will come the Friendship"

@heikeva: oh hun i know what you mean. i watched my mother grab my sis by her hair and ram her into the wall with it. thats definitely NOT what mean. im mean grab her up by the hair and look her dead in the eyes. i will not pull or shake or tug, but shell know i mean business. on the boy... well i will put him over my knee. but again... this is only for the most extreme tantrum that cannot be diffused. ill take drastic measures IF i have too.

you said it just the way i meant it brotha. fear is the last tactic and i hope i never have to use it..... but im one father who doesnt fear social services one iota. i will not be told how to discipline my children. i do what i think is fair. and as a victim of physical abuse, i know where to draw the line. dam you said that perfectly!

I have 3 sons, sometimes they can be a handful. They hear a warning 5x if they don't stop, their little butts are mine to do with. But afterwards when they can listen to reason i explain why they got punished.
