You can no longer edit your "State" directly, it will be determined automatically (by Andres)

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the downtime just now, I had to reset every single member's "State" in their Profile, which required me to take down the site briefly.

When we first launched the site several years ago, we didn't automatically determine our user's State, so we allowed each user to enter and edit it manually. However, for a while now, we've been able to accurately calculate most user's States based on their Postal/Zip Code, yet we still allowed users to edit their State manually even though that no longer made any sense. On top of that, users started making use of that flexibility to enter irrelevant information in the "State" field of their profile, and since every User's State appears in the search results (assuming they have one), irrelevant messages and incorrect locations were popping up in search results that were not helpful to those searching (I'm looking at you S.R.M...just kidding, people were doing this long before you guys, you guys just brought the hot water to a boil!).

So you are no longer allowed to edit your State directly, and it will be automatically determined based on your Postal/Zip Code and country in order to keep things clean and accurate. Feel free to enter custom info in the "Headline" or "About me" section of your profile, and if you want custom messages to appear in search results, you can use the Premium "Status Message" feature to do that.

If a wrong State is showing up in your profile, or you experience any other issues with your "State", please let me know here so I can look into it. Thanks!

good idea.... now all those claiming to live in a random US state, but are actually in other countries, can no longer lie about their location.
